Can I cancel my visa if I decide not to use it?
If you decide not to use your visa to Vietnam after obtaining it, cancellation may be possible in some cases, depending on the type of visa and how it was issued.
While there is no formal eVisa cancellation process, you may choose not to use it. Informing the provider may help clarify your intention but is not mandatory.
Visa on arrival and eVisa considerations
If you applied for a visa on arrival and you were approved and issued with an approval letter but you haven’t traveled yet, you should inform the visa service provider immediately to cancel the letter. This prevents complications at arrival points. For eVisas, you can inform the issuing body of your decision. However, bear in mind that visa fees are not refundable in most cases.
Note: If you received an eVisa or visa on arrival approval letter but did not use it and did not enter the country, there is no negative impact on your visa history - as long as you did not commit any violation or misuse the visa.
Refund and fee policies
Visa fees for embassy visas, eVisas or visa on arrival is generally non-refundable. This means if you cancel or do not use your visa, you will not be refunded most of the time for the money you paid. It is therefore advisable to have your travel plans right before applying for a visa.
Reasons to cancel a Visa
You might need to cancel a visa when you change your travel plans, or you got multiple visas by mistake or to prevent misuse of your visa once you lose it or compromise it. By cancelling your visa the right way, you will have clean travel records with no misunderstanding when you apply for a visa next time.
Summary: Cancel my visa
Although you can cancel a Vietnam visa, there is only a specified authority through which you can cancel the same in a timely manner. Always check cancellation procedures with the embassy, consulate or eVisa provider. Fees are usually non-refundable so plan ahead.
